You resolve to live up to a high standard of personal conduct. You resolve to be kind, dignified, confident and worthy. But at the close of the day you are conscious of not having fulfilled the terms of your resolution. Upon careful self-reflection you find that you have omitted the special act of kindness, have been timid, possibly undignified, have talked much of yourself, and have done little to elevate yourself in the esteem of your fellow men.
Hence the importance of regular daily self-examination to discover your special needs and shortcomings. To live up to a high standard requires persistent effort and vigilance. When you make a new resolution, fortify it with a still greater resolve to fulfill it. Only fulfilled resolutions are valuable.
