This map of Souderton, Pennsylvania was first published by Thaddeus Mortimer Fowler in 1894. T.M. Fowler (1842 – 1922) was an American cartographer who spent much of his life creating beautiful hand drawn maps of American towns.
When creating this bird’s eye view of the town, Fowler would have first outlined the pattern of the streets, and then walked around town sketching buildings, trees, and other features to present a complete and accurate rendering of the town’s layout.
Fowler’s map of Souderton shows old landmarks such as the Souderton Hotel, J.B. Frederick’s Shoe Store, H.S. Souders Cigar Box Factory, Holly Brothers Hand Cheese Factory, Herman Funk’s Organ Factory and more.
